6 steps to fixing a hard drive

Get a replacement PCB that is same as your current one. Note down the model number, the P/N, the Firmware code, Site code, Data code and the Main Controller IC number.

2. Search for it online

Go to hdd-parts.com and enter the model of the dead into the search box at the top of the page. Look through the list of results and find the drive that matches all the numbers you noted down. Once you find a match, buy it.

3. Check your parts

You will get your new PCB within 6 to 10 working days. You will receive your PCB, along with a torx screwdriver and installation instructions.

4. Remove the old PCB

On top of the PCB there are five screws that connect to the hard drive. Undo them using a torx screwdriver. Once you remove all the screws, put them on a zip-lock bad so that you don’t lose them.
